In conversation with Tom Camps (psychoanalyst, Bristol) we discussed the use of the room as a space of work, of real creative work with his clients. This confirmed to me the importance of spaces like studios where the act of closing a door and concentrating upon an issue of discussion or process of contemplation seems to allow a much wider grasp of the topic to hand. It seems commensensical and yet has in the recent past been much derided within certain sections of cultural comment.
